Whether you have just had your first child or your sixth, the post partum period is a massive shift in a women’s life and health. The physical, mental and social changes can be overwhelming.

We are passionate about educating women on how to best take care of themselves in this sensitive period, allowing them to heal properly and get them moving towards their goals. Whether it be returning to exercise safely or recovering from birth injury and becoming symptom free- we can help.

We believe the whole body should be assessed (not just the pelvic floor) as so many areas can feed into each other. 

A Postpartum check may involve:

  • Pelvic floor assessment (internal, external or via ultrasound)
  • Birth injury assessment if applicable
  • Prolapse assessment if applicable
  • Abdominal separation and strength assessment
  • Neck, middle and lower back mobility
  • Hip, Sacrum and tailbone assessment and loading
  • C section scar assessment if applicable
  • Other areas of concern e.g wrist pain

We may discuss the following as part of our hands on treatment

  • Specific mobility exercises
  • Specific strengthening program for the pelvic floor and abdominals
  • Techniques to aid scarring and healing of the perineum
  • Breastfeeding tips and positioning if applicable
  • Return to sport/running program
  • Prolapse management options if applicable
  • Incontinence treatment plan if applicable
  • Tips on pain and apprehension with intimacy

It is recommended this type of post partum assessment is completed 6 weeks after the delivery of your baby. It could be done earlier or later depending on your specific concern, so GET IN TOUCH!
